Junior Congress - 9th March 2014

This year our Junior Congress was run as the English Bridge Union Schools Simultaneous Pairs Competition for Oxfordshire and took place at Roke and Berrick Salome Village Hall, the home of Wallingford Bridge Club.

The event was attended by thirty nine children, aged between 8 and 16 years, from fifteen local schools around the counties of Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

All participants played nine or ten boards of bridge or mini bridge and after all their hard work, were able to let off steam outside and enjoy barbecued sausages and homemade cakes, whilst the director and scorer finalised the results!

Joint winners of the bridge section were brothers and partners George and Arthur Anstis, International School, Culham and George Cooper, Kidmore End playing with Sam Metcalfe of Downley.

The mini-bridge section was divided into two sections and equal winners of the yellow section playing North/South were Luke Davies and partner Edward Day, Jessica Dippenaar and Rhys Dawes, all from Kidmore End School. Katie Jarvey and James Wilson from Millbrook won the East/West Section.

In the green section of the room the North/South winners were Ryan Badenhorst and Jake Ryan from Benson and playing East/West were Tokaj Charles and Charlie Summerley from Moulsford.

However, after all that hard work, nobody was sent away empty handed and all children took home a ‘party bag’ containing a Mr Bridge pen, an EBU badge and mini chocolate eggs!
